Emery D. Goodwin, seventy-nine, died at his home near Knoxville, Sunday morning after an extended illness. Mr. Goodwin was born in Keeneyville, Pa., March 4, 1860, the son of Richard and Martha Saxbury Goodwin. On July 2, 1890, he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie West. For forty-eight years Deerfield Township has been their home where Mr. Goodwin was engaged in farming. Besides his widow, he is survived by one brother, Milton E. Goodwin, of Victoria, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. May Hazlett of Whitesville, N. Y.; Mrs. Luella Carpenter, Westfield, Pa., and nieces and nephews. The body will be taken to the home Wednesday morning where funeral servies will be held Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock, the Rev. Frank Davis of the Knoxville Baptist Church officiating with burial in Middlebury Union Cemetery at Keeneyville. Pall-bearers will be John Hegmann, Glenn Davis, John Bayer, Lynn Doan and Everitt Baker.

Mrs. Isabelle Saxbury Dead.
Waterloo,  Oct. 30 – Mrs. Isabelle Saxbury of the town of Fayette died at her home yesterday. Mrs. Saxbury was born in Chatham, Pa., and was 66 years old. She was a sister of Gen. George Jackson of this village who survives her. The remains will be taken to Keeneyville Pa., where funeral services will be held and burial made.

Esther F. Frye – 1911-1999

Esther F. Frye, 88, of Middletown, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Willow Knoll Retirement Community. She was born Oct. 15, 1911, in Scranton, Kan., and had lived in the community for 12 years. She was a homemaker and a member and secretary/treasurer at Assembly of God Church in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Maggie Stephens; a daughter, Delores Ann Frye; a brother, Clyde Stephens; and a sister, Anna Cooper. She is survived by her son, Harold L. Frye and wife Colleen of Joplin, Mo.; a daughter, Esther F. Saxbury and husband Richard of Middletown; eight grandchildren, Dennis Saxbury and wife Karen, Debra O’Hara and husband Jim, Janine Saxbury, Tangi Pergram and husband Doug, Bill Frye, Steve Frye, Tawnia Feller and husband Mike and Renata Frye; and eight great-grandchildren, Stephanie O’Hara, Alison Saxbury, Shawna O’Hara, Heather Hardewig, Leah Hardewig, Janelle Frye, Dustin Frye and Danielle Feller.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. today at First Christian Church. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. at the church. Officiating clergy will be Carol Oetzel. Burial will be in Scranton Cemetery. Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MEMORIALS: Memorials may be made to First Christian Church’s building fund, 4520 Rosedale Road, Middletown, 45042.

Robert M. Saxbury, Jr., age 47, of Beaver Dams, NY died unexpectedly on Friday, January 16, 2009 in Florence, South Carolina.

Born in Corning, NY on September 25, 1961, Bob was the son of Robert and Janet (Hilligus) Saxbury, Sr.  He married Amy Osatchuck in 1987 in Hornby, NY. He loved to spend time with his family and friends for cookouts and card games. His great passion and whole life revolved around driving his eighteen-wheeler over the road. His traveling companions were “Cain” and “Missy”, his lovable pets.

He leaved behind his wife, Amy; two sons, Eric Saxbury of Corning, and Steven Saxbury of Beaver Dams; parents, Robert and Janet Saxbury of Corning; one brother, Dennis (Lisa) Saxbury of Addison; six sisters, Phyllis (Robert) Bixby of Campbell, Jeanette (Dave Smith) Saxbury Painted Post, Amy (Gina) Saxbury of Bath, Bea (Duane Wilson) Saxbury of Corning, Florence Saxbury of Corning, and Heidi (Butch Scuteri) Saxbury of Corning; mother-in-law, Nancy Osatchuck of Corning; two brothers-in-law, Doug (Betty) Osatchuck and Peter (Deb Allen) Osatchuck; a sister-in-law, Brenda (Scott Ayers) Kolbe; several nieces, nephews, aunt, uncles, and cousins.

Friends may call on Monday, January 26, 2009 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street in Corning where funeral services will follow the calling hours at 3:00 om. A reception for family and friends will take place at Grace Lee Weslyan Church, Rte 414, Beaver Dams after the service.

Nancy L. (Berger) Saxbury, a Grand Island resident, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008. She was the wife of Mickey J. Saxbury; the mother of Jessica and Louie McIntyre, Nicole and Steven Saxbury; the grandmother of Anthony Reitler; the sister of Eric (Sue) and Dale (Lynn) Berger; the aunt of Tori, Kyle, John and April; and the daughter of the late William and Doris Berger.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kaiser Funeral Home, 1950 Whitehaven Road. A brief prayer service will take place there at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the SPCA.

George Elihu Kinnamon – 1856-1923

George Elihu Kinnamon prominent farmer and land owner of Pleasant Hill township passed away at his home near Nebo, Ill. Wednesday Aug. 22 failing at 2:30 p.m. after an illness of several weeks. He had been failing in health for a year past but was not, considered in a serious condition until three weeks before his death.

Deceased was born in Harrisonville, Mo. Feb. 8. 1856. His mother died from exposure taking care of the farm while the father was in army leaving him and his two small sisters alone in the house for several days before they were discovered by neighbors. He was adopted by a neighbor named Wm. Hutton who later came to Pike County and settled near Nebo where he grew to manhood.

In Mar. 1877 he was married to Martha Wilson daughter of Austin Wilson one of the pioneers of the county. Four children were born to this union Cleon who lives on the adjoining farm, Ida who became the wife of Alva Pearson, Nelle who married Luther Armentrout and Claud who died when a child. Mrs. Kinnamon passed away Feb. 22, 1900. She was soon followed by the two daughters this leaving only the father and Cleon. Mr. Kinnamon was married the second time to Mrs. Anna Sitton Mason in 1902 who died in Jan. 1915. On May ?th 1916 he was again united in marriage to Mrs. ???? Underwood of Pittsfield, Ill. who survives him. He also leaves to mourn their loss one son Cleon, Leavenworth, Kans.

Funeral services were held at the Christian Church at Pittsfield, he being a member of that body at Nebo ???? early manhood. ??Reaves ??????????????????????? Mrs. Clyde ???? and Mrs. C. P. Steinmerz sang “He sleeps in the valley sweetly sleeps.” Miss Vida Neighbert sang “Shadows”, Mr. Ralph W. P?th??? sang “There will be no burdens over yonder”. Burial was in West Cemetery, Pittsfield.

Robert Decker 1935 – 2008

Age 72, of Elmira, died Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Elcor Health Services. Bob was born November 24, 1935, a son of the late Harrison and Blanche Carrigan Decker. He is also predeceased by his wife Margaret L. Decker, sisters, Gladys Saxbury, Geraldine Harris, Loretta Travis, Edna Hamilton, and brother Harold Decker. Bob is survived by his children, Timothy J. Decker of Elmira; Patricia A. McNeil of Erin with husband Jeff, and daughter Michelle; Steven M. Decker of Elmira; Deborah L. Levanduski of Elmira Heights, with husband Jeff and sons, Zachary and Eric; good friends and neighbors, Jack and Thelma Tyler; along with several nieces, nephews, in-laws. Bob graduated from Southside High School in 1953, and enjoyed being on the reunion committee. He entered the U.S. Army in 1955, attaining the rank of Sgt. (E5). Discharged in September 1958, he joined the National Guard for 7 years, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Bob worked as a driver/salesman for 7-UP for 19 ½ years. The company then merged with Elmira Pepsi-Cola and Bob was a pre-sell salesman with Pepsi for almost 20 years retiring in 1998. He enjoyed basketball and softball, playing on teams for 7-UP/Pepsi until he was 61. Bob took great pride in chairing a committee for a one-night basketball tournament for MDA. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of Water and Walnut Sts., on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 7:15 p.m. Interment, with full military honors will take place at Woodlawn National Cemetery on Thursday, March 13, 2008.  Published in the Star-Gazette from 3/10/2008 – 3/11/2008.

Kenneth Benjamin 1935 – 1996

KENNETH E. ‘PETE’  BENJAMIN, 60, of 924 N. Elmira St., Chaelsea Trailer Park, Sayre, died Thursday evening, March 14, 1996, at home.  Born June 4, 1935, in Albany Township, Pa., he was a son of the late Norman William and Margaret Belle Bristol Benjamin.  Kenneth attended the Towanda High School and was employed by the Zeiser-Wilbert Vault Company in Elmira, N.Y., for over 20 years until his retirement.  He was a former member of the Border riders Motorcycle Club.  His main interest in life encompassed his home and family.  Surviving are his wife, Mollie Vanderpool Benjamin at home, his children, Kenneth Kinner of Elmira, N.Y., Cindy Cubrego of Elmira, N.Y., Katrina Parker of Towanda, Tammy Saxbury of East Smithfield and Lucenda Saxon of Towanda; 24 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his step-children; Richard Vargson of Towanda, Margaret Johnson of Athens, and Betty Vargson of Waverly, N.Y.; three sisters; Josephine Vanderpool of Towanda RR 2, Lucy Hemenway of Towanda RR 2, and Evelyn Yaw of Wickensburg, Ariz.; five brothers; Melvin Benjamin of Rockville, Md., Walter Benjamin of Anaheim, Calif., Silas Benjamin of Sayre, James Benjamin of Towanda RR 2 and Robert Benjamin of Sayre; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by; an infant son, Kenneth Benjamin in March of 1965, sisters; Dorothy Landmesser and Sara Frye.  The funeral service will be held Monday, March 18, 1996, at 2 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with the Rev. Thomas Geiger, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, officiating.  Interment will be in the Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa.  The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.  –Towanda Daily review.
