Alvin William Saxbery 1892-1979

William Alvin Saxbery, 87, of Sutter, a retired employee of Packaging Corporation of America in Quincy, died at 11:23 p.m. Monday (Nov. 5, 1979) in St. Mary Hospital in Quincy.

Mr. Saxbery was born in New Canton, Aug. 28, 1892, a son of Frank and Nancy Ancell Saxbery. He married Kitty Bird in 1921 in New Canton. She preceded him in death. He married Ellen Barre Sept. 15, 1960, in Quincy. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife; a son, James of Quincy; three step-sons, Gilbert Veach of Decatur, Raymond Veach of Joliet and Donald Ruths of Quincy; a step-daughter, Mrs. Mae Lockner of Phoenix, Ariz; a sister, Mrs. James (Lucy) Garner of Maywood, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. A son, a daughter and a sister preceded him in death.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Zehander Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Woodrow McCaleb. Burial will be in Payson New Cemetery.
