Researching the Saxbury Surname Worldwide
By: admin
Other surnames appearing include various spellings of:Sellers, Kinnamon, Saxbury, Hinton, Brock, Rice, Nighswonger, Meachem, Hutton, Mannihous, Rub, Matthews, Arnolds, Buente, Sawers, Cowen, Graham, Cole, Seaton, Cooper. Not all are necessarily connected. Some information was recorded simply because of similarity of events and/or location and retained for possible inclusion as family members.

Original goal:

Attempt to locate more information on family of Anna Lucretia Sellers-Saxbury b. abt 1877 in Gasconade Co MO to Miles E. Sellers and Mary J. Kinnamon. Anna died Dec. 1961 in Pike Co IL. Oral history from Anna indicated that her parents died in Gasconade Co MO when she was a young child and that she was sent back to Pike Co IL to be raised by Sellers relatives. She was unaware of - or otherwise did not indicate - that she had siblings. The Sellers-Saxburys were a close-knit family and I feel that if she was aware of siblings this fact would have been made known. Note - Anna was only 3 years old when her parents died.

Miles Sellers and Mary Kinnamon were married in Pike Co IL in 1869 and some time between then and 1880 moved to Gasconade Co MO. I was able to locate other Kinnamon’s in the Gasconade Co MO area however I have yet to find a definative link. No positive link has been made for Mary to any Kinnamon’s in any area at this time though events indicate there is a relationship just waiting to be found.

Have not yet been able to locate Miles and Mary Sellers in an 1870 census.

Found records that indicated Miles and Mary Sellers died Feb 1880 while residing in the Sawers household. Connection to the Sawers has not yet been determined. The probate records for Miles Sellers indicate there are two other children that we were unaware of - Ellen Sellers b. abt 1871 and George Sellers b. abt 1873.

The focus on the information gathered below is trying to prove / disprove Winifred Hinton-Brock-Kinnamon as a relation (possibly grandmother) of Mary J. Kinnamon as well as determine the parents of Mary. Subsequent goal is to determine the fate of Ellen and George Sellers (siblings of Anna Sellers - all children of Miles and Mary Sellers) after the death of their parents in 1880 as well as sort out all of the other relationships found in the original search goal.
Current determination:

Miles E. Sellers married Mary J. Kinnamon in Pike Co IL in 1869. Between 1869 and 1880 they moved to Gasconade Co MO most likely to be near relatives of Mary though no definate links have been found. They had at least three children, Ellen in 1871, George in 1873 and Anna in 1877. Miles and Mary died of pneumonia in Feb 1880 in Gasconade Co MO. Anna was sent back to Pike Co IL to be raised by Miles Sellers family members. Fate of her siblings, Ellen and George is unknown. The only consistent name in the Franklin and Gasconade Co MO area is Winfred Hinton-Brock-Kinnamon. She is a candidate for a grandmother to Mary J. Kinnamon-Sellers. This conclusion of relation of Mary Kinnamon to Winfred Hinton-Brock-Kinnamon is drawn in part on William Fritz Mannyhous being appointed executor of the estate of Miles Sellers as Mannyhouse married Winfred’s daughter Emeline (aka Virginia).

The following is a timeline based on the information found to date.

1805 (about) Winfred Hinton born possibly in NC to Elizabeth (?) Hinton
1822 - Jan 23 Winna Hinton married Elisha Brock in Franklin Co MO
1827 - Jun 10 Wineford Brock married Erasmus Kinneman in Franklin Co MO

[Note - What happened to her first husband?]

1828 - Oct 11 Marietta Rice married Robert Brock in Franklin Co MO

[Note - Possibly brother to Elisha Brock?]

1830 Census, Boeff Twp, Franklin Co MO
Winny Brock (age 20-30) with 2 males under 5

[Note - What happened to her husband and why is she going by Brock instead of Kinnamon?]

1830 Census, Boeff Twp, Franklin Co MO
Marietta Brock (age 15-20) with 1 female under 5

[Note - What happened to her husband?]

1840 Census, Boeff Twp, Franklin Co, MO
Winfred Brock (age 30-40) with 2 males 10-15, 1 female under 5, 1 female 15-20

[Note - Again where is her husband and why is she going by Brock? Where did the 2 females come from? Is one possibly the child of Marietta? If so, what happened to Marietta?]

[Note - Here she is still going by Brock but her children are going by Kinnamon. Where was Erasmus Kinnamon in the 1830 census for her to have had Emeline? What about the older girl who would be about 25 to 30 years old at this time and the other boy that would be between 20 to 25 years old? Could the missing boy be the father of Mary J. Kinnamon who married Miles Sellers in Pike Co IL in 1869?]

Charles B. Moore b. Dec 18, 1863 d. Oct 16, 1911

His parents: George & Elizabeth (Jessup) Moore were married in Warren County, OH, at Lebanon, the county seat 11/23/1836. There were 12 of the Moore children. Charles B. being the youngest.

Charles B. Moore was married and had a daughter before he married Iva Mullan. The marriage was most likely in OH. It could have been Warren Co or perhaps Clinton, Greene or Hamilton.

He applied for a marriage license in McDonough Co IL on 2/11/1896 so the other marriage would have been previous to that. He was 33 when he married Iva Belle.

He is buried in Macomb with his parents and his second wife Iva. His father George Moore was born in Fayette County PA but no trace can be found there.
