Ruth Mary (Hodges) Viar 1924-1998

Quincy Herald Whig, June 3, 1998 - Liberty, Ill - Ruth M. Viar, 73, of 408 S. Park in Liberty, died at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday (June 2, 1998) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Born Nov. 11, 1924, in Pittsfield, Mrs. Viar was a daughter of Frank Leroy and Anna May Easley Hodges. She married Albert T. Viar June 27, 1942, in Palmyra, Mo.

Mrs. Viar was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Liberty, Liberty Lioness Club, Liberty Historical Society, and the Order of Eastern Star. She also had volunteered at many local American Red Cross blood drives.

Survivors include four sons, Albert Viar Jr. of Quincy, Leroy Viar of Danville, Charles “Pepper” Viar of Nashville, Tenn., and Ronald Viar of Hannibal, Mo.; three daughters, Judy Saxbury and Betty Jo Myers, both of Tulsa, Okla., and Mary Ann Myers of Liberty; 20 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Viar was preceded in death by a son, Andy Grey Viar, who was a twin to Albert Jr.; and a brother James Thomas Hodges.

Services will conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Zion Lutheran Church in Liberty by the Rev. Ronald Graham. Burial will be in Xander Cemetery in Liberty.

Visitation will be held from noon until time of services Thursday in Zion Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.

The Duker and Haugh Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
